Shawna Button, RP (Qualifying) provides psychotherapy to children and adolescents, as well as support for their caregivers. She works with a broad array of presenting challenges, including symptoms of depression, anxiety, self-harm, grief, trauma, adoption and attachment challenges, social and relational issues, and family support. She is also passionate about providing neurodiversity-affirming care for youth with ADHD and/or autism. She strives to provide a warm, trusting, non-judgmental space and emphasizes collaboration and openness in her therapeutic relationship with her clients. She works from an integrative, strengths-based perspective drawing from evidence-based practice, with a focus on increasing positive coping and facilitating stronger familial and social relationships. Shawna primarily works with clients in-person, however can provide virtual services as needed.
Shawna has completed her coursework for the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at the University of Ottawa and is completing her thesis on the temporal sequencing of borderline personality features and intimate partner violence in adolescents and young adults. She is passionate about child and youth mental health and intends to pursue her Ph.D. in Education, researching the relationship between loneliness, social media use, and well-being in Canadian youth. At the University of Ottawa, she mentors first-year counselling psychology students learning and practicing therapy microskills. She maintains a membership with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. At Queensview Professional Services, she is supervised by clinical psychologist Dr. Kelly Weegar.
