Dr. Jennifer Karp, C.Psych.
Dr. Karp provides psychological services to children, adolescents and families. She offers individual therapy to children, youth and families who are experiencing a range of difficulties such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, anger, interpersonal problems, parent-child relational conflict and adjustment to parental separation and divorce. She maintains a particular interest in working with clients suffering from anxiety conditions. Dr. Karp also provides psychoeducational assessments to children and adolescents in order to evaluate learning disabilities, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and gifted status.
Dr. Karp works collaboratively with children, youth and their families in providing a warm, empathic environment in which to address presenting concerns. Dr. Karp's therapeutic orientation may best be described as cognitive-behavioural (CBT), which involves helping clients to develop a greater understanding of themselves and providing coping strategies that can be implemented into their everyday lives.
Dr. Karp completed her B.A. (Honours) in Psychology at Queen's University. She received both her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Concordia University in Montreal. She has trained and worked in various community clinics and hospitals in Ottawa and Montreal, such as the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), child and adolescent services at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, and the psychology department at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal.
Dr. Karp is a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. In support of the profession, she also maintains memberships in national, provincial and local psychological associations. She is passionate about working with children and youth, and keeps up to date on current developments in the field by regularly attending child-focused educational workshops and lectures.
